Welcome!
You have before you some Amiga programmers candy! Thats nearly
FIFTY megabytes worth of source-codes and utils to me and you! Never before
in the History of the Amiga has this much Amiga specific source-code been
placed on one easy to access CD. Many source-codes are specially released
to this cd and never seen before so its bound to be full of sources you`ll
find very useful.
Thousands of man hours worth of work are present here. The contents of this
area of the CD will be highly inspirational and useful to both commerical
games developers and scene demo coders alike. This is because there is such
a vast array of source-codes to choose from. They have been written in the
two industry standards, Assembly Language (which is STILL critical for games
and demo`s on the Amiga no matter what people say!) and the C programming
language (very suitable for utilties development and operating system
programming)
Notes for Assembly Language Programmers:
----------------------------------------
The provided public-domain assembler, "ASM-One v1.25" has been included
(which is the number one choice for scene coders - and the fastest Amiga
Assembler!) to allow you to re-assemble the source-codes. For some people
however this assembler is not their 'cup of tea' so to speak. Anyway, If
you like this assembler or want a feature adding you
can contact its scene author, the Amiga group T.F.A, the coder is price;

Also provided is the freeware/shareware Assembler, `PhxAss' which should also
assemble most sources without problems.
The best commercial assembler offering you can buy is Devpac (which supports the
full MC680x0 instruction set (excluding 060) and comes with a decent debugger and
good manuals as well as the full operating system include files) You can contact

Notes for C Language Programmers
--------------------------------
Currently for C Programmers the Amiga is in a bit of a dilemma. For starters
the most well known C compiler, SAS/C by SAS Institute is no longer under
development. Currently only one other commercial C compiler offering exists,
That is Matt Dillon`s DICE C compiler. (Dillon`s Intergrated C Environment)
The shareware version of Dice C Compiler has indeed been included on this
very CD for you to try out. News of a new C compiler called 'Storm C' has
been circulating recently. Apparently when completed this new commerical c
compiler should be more efficient than Lattice, DICE, etc and boast a full
set of exciting features.
To make matters worse for new C programmers the 'include' files which are
necessary to compile just about any C program cannot be included on this
CD. These are copyright to Amiga Technologies (and prior to this Commodore)
and cannot be distributed. They need to be purchased seperately or you could
ofcourse buy either the last updated version of Lattice from Hi-Soft.
The SAS/C Compiler (which probably still is the best on the Amiga) should
still be obtainable from Hi-Soft.

You could also try to purchase DICE or wait buy the include files seperately
from Amiga Technologies.
The Public Domain offerings include (this list is not extensive);
DICE C Compiler ; now updated to a commercial offering
PDC C Compiler ; comes supplied with its full source-code in C
GNU C Compiler ; comes supplied with its full source-code in C
North C Compiler ; and update of PDC compiler, but no source included.
Sadly because of all the compilcations related to C on the Amiga none of
the provided source-codes can be compiled directly off CD without you owning
your own set of OS2.x or OS3.x include files.
Final Comments
--------------
We hope you enjoy reading and learning from the material contained in this
area and wish to greatly thank all the people who submitted work for
inclusion onto this great source-code reference.
Long Live the Amiga, Its Developers and the Custom Chip Hackers!
End.
